Tanjung Bungah landslide: MBPP, PWD monitoring mitigation works

Last Update: 27/06/2019

GEORGE TOWN, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Penang City Council (MBPP) and Public Works Department (PWD) are closely monitoring the mitigation and safety control works along a 15km Batu Ferringhi stretch following the collapse of a retaining wall at Tanjung Bungah.

Mayor Datuk Ye Tung Seang said civil engineering experts were currently assessing the situation at the site and they were expected to submit their proposals to the authorities soon.

“For the time being, we will be waiting for further recommendations from the experts on this matter,” he said at a press conference, here, today.

A retaining wall near a resort in Tanjung Bungah collapsed around 9.45 pm on Tuesday, claiming the lives of four Myammar workers.

Yesterday, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow ordered PWD to carry out a study on the slopes above Jalan Batu Ferringhi and the slopes that fringe all the way up to Teluk Bahang in order to ensure safety for road users.
