KOTA KINABALU, July 1 (Bernama) -- United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) is committed to being a platform to continuously uphold Islam in the state, says its president Datuk Sairin Karno.
He said the association would also foster closer relations between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities to promote mutual respect, hence ensuring unity and harmony among the people of Sabah.
Sairin said USIA’s struggles were increasingly challenging currently due to slander being so easily spread, which could threaten public order, peace and prosperity in the state.
“Therefore, the Muslim and non-Muslim communities in Sabah should cooperate in finding the best way to ensure Sabah remains peaceful and prosperous,” he said in his speech at the USIA Aidilfitri celebration, here, today.
Also present at the event were USIA patron, Tun Sakaran Dandai and his wife, Toh Puan Siti Rukaiyah Abdullah, who is the patron of Wanita USIA.
Sairin also called on Sabah’s political leaders, particularly those who are also USIA Supreme Council members, to set aside their political ideologies when discussing the association’s direction, especially in producing a generation of capable individuals in the state.
"However, I am grateful that although the USIA Supreme Council members are leaders from different political parties, they have the same spirit of ensuring USIA remains a platform for struggling for Islam,” he said.
