GOF 7 enforcers caught man fueling tank suspiciously in integrated ops

PASIR MAS, July 10 (Bernama) -- A man who suspiciously spent too much time filling his tank at a petrol station near the border at Rantau Panjang here attracted the attention of three enforcement officers on an integrated operations here yesterday.

General Operations Force (GOF) 7th Battalion commanding officer, Supt Azhari Nusi, said soon after that, his enforcement team and officials from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) stopped the man's Proton Waja car for inspection at about 2 pm.

He said the inspection found six plastic containers filled with petrol on the back seat and a modified fuel tank.

“We believe the 33-year-old man was filling fuel in large quantities with the intention of smuggling it into the neighbouring country.

“Further inspection revealed that the petrol brought (in the car) was as much as 90 litres. The overall value of the fuel and the vehicle which were seized was more than RM10,000,” he said when met at the GOF tactical headquarters here today.

Azhari said the contraband was handed over to the KPDNHEP for further investigation under Section 21 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 while the man was released after his statement was taken.

In another development, Azhari said, within 27 days of the Op Wawasan at the Malaysia-Thailand border, the GOF 7 has recorded a total of 48 cases with an overall contraband value of RM1.3 million.

He explained PGA7 will always work together with other agencies on the border to ensure there was no leakage of subsidised goods to the neighbouring country.
