Last Update: 11/07/2019

NILAI, July 11 (Bernama) — Nationhood-themed public speaking and story telling competitions can act as effective mediums to promote the understanding of national history and the implementation of government policies.

Negeri Sembilan Investment, Industrialisation, Entrepreneurship, Education and Human Capital committee chairman, Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek, said it was important for Malaysians to cultivate a strong identity, and one that is well informed on national policies.

“Strong identities are cultivated from deep understanding of our history, which in turn helps develop love for the nation,” he told reporters at the prize-giving ceremony of the state-level Oratory and Storytelling competition here today.

Mohamad Rafie said competitions like these were platforms to educate society on issued based on facts, rather than hearsay or coffee shop talk.

The winner of the story telling competition took home a cash prize of RM3,000 while the public speaking competition winner bagged RM1,500.
