Last Update: 17/07/2019

DUNGUN, July 17 (Bernama) -- The workers at the Petronas gas processing plant 6 (GPP6) in Paka near here faced anxious moments when a distillation tower caught fire last night.

The incident was said to have occurred due to a lightning strike, forcing the management to empty the gas from the tower for security reasons.

Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB), in its statement today, said that the fire which took place at 7.43 pm yesterday only involved the equipment at the plant and did not result in loss of life.

The statement also said that PGB had also mobilised its emergency team to control the incident and it was also assisted by various related agencies.

All the authorities concerned, the statement said, had been informed on the incident and an investigation would be conducted to gather further details.

PGB would continue to channel information and development on the case to ensure it would not result in public anxiety, the statement added.
