400 differently-abled children in Kelantan celebrate birthday

Last Update: 20/07/2019

KOTA BHARU, July 20 (Bernama) -- Four hundred differently-abled children celebrated their birthdays today at a party organised by the Kelantan foundation for special needs people (YOKUK) here.

The celebration which featured cake-cutting and games including a wheelchair competition was part of the 20th YOKUK Carnival held at Universiti Sains Malaysia's campus in Kubang Kerian here.

Foundation chairman Datin Suliana Shamsuddin Alias said the event was meant to give the youngsters aged four to 18, an experience of being celebrated by others.

She encouraged society to interact with special needs children as this would aid their development, and also called for better understanding of special needs people.

"We may know them to be 20 or 25 years old but actually their mental capacity is that of a five to seven year old child," she said after the launch of  the carnival by Cik Puan Sofie Louise Johansson, the wife of the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan Dr Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra.
