Barrier and height signage near Matang bypass to be upgraded - Mayor

Last Update: 22/07/2019

KUCHING, July 22  (Bernama) -- The barrier and height limit signage before the bypass at the Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub roundabout in Matang will be upgraded to make it more conspicuous so that road users will be more alert when entering the lane.

North Kuching Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said there are plans to upgrade the sign board following yesterday’s accident in which a bus was stuck at the bypass damaging the vehicle’s roof. Its driver had failed to notice the signage on the two-metre height limit before entering the lane.

He said his office was in contact with the relevant authorities to upgrade the signage to make it more conspicuous.

"I think most drivers know of the height limit, but I understand that in this case, the driver was from Sibu and had not noticed the signboard … he should have been more alert as the height limit signage is near the bypass," he told reporters here today.

Abang Abdul Wahap said the Public Works Department had conducted an initial inspection on the bypass and found no damage to its structure.
