Sarawak APM prepares for floods

Last Update: 25/07/2019

KUCHING, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM), in preparing for flood operations during the monsoon season, has provided training for its personnel in various aspects of disaster management.

Most recently,  it also held a two-day programme in which the participants were trained to scuba dive and handle rescue boats.

“Such training is important as only with precise, efficient and quick action, can lives be saved during disasters,” Sarawak APM Director Mohtar Samat said during the programme held at Kampung Pudu Lundu beach on July 23 and 24.

He said that APM had also distributed boats to its offices across the state for the purpose.

“With the boats, those undergoing training should strive to enhance their knowledge and skills in handling and operating them,”  he added.

In Sarawak, the floods usually occur between December and March and affect mostly residents in the state’s coastal and low-lying areas.
