Two Bangladeshi workers escape fiery end in factory blaze

BUKIT MERTAJAM, July 27 (Bernama) -- Two Bangladeshi workers escaped a fiery end after being trapped on the fourth floor of a food processing factory at Perai Industrial Park here when it caught fire today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received the distress call about the fire at 1.58 pm and rushed to the scene to rescue the two men, known as Md Majlu Bepey and Chulu, both in their 30s.

“When our team arrived at the scene, they were told that two workers were trapped on the fourth floor of the factory.

“The quick action of the team succeeded in rescuing the two men before putting out the blaze,” he said, adding that 70 per cent of the 6,400 sq ft factory was destroyed in the mishap, while the cause and losses were being investigated.
