Toddler drowns after falling into river

LANGKAWI, July 30 (Bernama) -- An 18-month-old boy drowned after falling into a river near Kampung Sungai Menghulu Fishermen's Jetty here this afternoon.

Langkawi District Police Chief Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said at the time of the incident, the boy was playing with four of his siblings near his uncle's house.

"According to the victim's uncle, he was told by his son that his nephew had fallen into the water at about 1.10 pm. He then rushed to the scene and found the child submerged in the water.

“The uncle brought the boy out and took him to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital here where he was confirmed to have died," he said when contacted this afternoon.

Mohd Iqbal said initial investigations found no criminal elements and the case is still under investigation.
