Last Update: 01/08/2019

KUANTAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Two people including an underage teenager pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of spreading information on money-lending which misled the public.

Ho Chee Seng, 24, and the 17-year-old boy, who both work as air-conditioning technicians, admitted to committing the offence by sending the misleading short messaging service (SMS) at 2 pm on Aug 9 last year at Lorong Seri Kuantan 25 here to encourage people to borrow money.

They were charged under Section 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951, which provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Nor Azizah Aling allowed Ho bail of RM2,900 in one surety while the juvenile was granted bail of RM2,800 in one surety.

The court set Aug 28 this year for mention of the case to hear a probation report on the juvenile from the Social Welfare Department before passing sentence.
