Championship a platform to gauge Kelantan cyclists for Sukma 2020 - PBNK

Last Update: 01/08/2019

KOTA BHARU, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The two-day 2019 Kelantan Cycling Championship which kicks off tomorrow will be used as a platform to prepare the state's cyclists for next year's Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Johor.

Kelantan Cycling Association (PBNK) president Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Fared Abdul Ghani 'said Kelantan cyclists will be able to use the championship to gauge their performances when competing against cyclists from four local district teams and five other teams from Selangor, Perak, Perlis, Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

“This is an opportunity for our athletes to polish their techniques, improve their performance and build confidence before competing in Sukma 2020,” he told Bernama here today.

Mohd Fared said at the same time, the association and the Kelantan Sports Council intends to use the championship as a yardstick to prepare for Sukma 2024, which the state is expected to host.

“The tournament is timely as it will help us gain more experience in organising major cycling competitions,” he said.

Kelantan has never hosted the Sukma games since it was first held in 1986.
