Helicopter to be used to put out peat fires in Miri

Last Update: 06/08/2019

MIRI, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Miri Fire and Rescue Department will use a helicopter to “water bomb” the peat forest fires in Kuala Baram tomorrow, said its chief Law Poh Kiong.

"The area that was successfully extinguished today was 1.6 hectares (four acres) from the total of 17 hectares (42 acres)," he said in a statement here tonight.

Besides using helicopter, Law said the firemen and staff of two corporate companies would create a fire break to stop it from spreading further.

He said that among the challenges faced during the operation were strong winds and hot weather.
