Two boys among 143 held in drug raids in Kerian

BAGAN SERAI, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Two boys were among 143 people arrested for various drug offences in the Kerian District Ops Ice Breaker conducted from July 29 to last Sunday.
Kerian district police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the two school dropouts, aged 14 and 18, were arrested in Parit Buntar and Jalan Siakap here and investigations show they had been addicted to methamphetamine for one year.
"A woman was among the 143 arrested, aged between 14 and 41, at seven hotspots in Semanggol and Tanjung Piandang," he told a media conference here today.
Omar Bakhtiar said 282.32 gm of heroin, 48.03 gm of syabu and 1.49 gm of cannabis worth RM18,556 were seized during the operation. He said 106 of the suspects tested positive for drugs, 26 were arrested for drug possession and 11 for drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, two men in their 30s and 40s have been detained for 14 days on suspicion of possessing 147.61 gm of heroin, 18.1 gm of methamphetamine and 0.41 gm of cannabis worth RM7,800 in a house at Jalan Kampung Dew here last Wednesday.
Omar Bakhtiar said the suspect in his 30s was released from the Taiping Prison in December last year for a drug case, while the other suspect had two drug-related records.
Police also seized two motorcycles, a Honda EX 5 and a Honda RS 150, from the suspects.
"We believe the house has been used for drug trafficking," he said.
