Four inmates at Tapah prison get seven-day Aidiladha break

Last Update: 08/08/2019

TAPAH, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Four inmates at the Tapah Prison here were released for a week from today under the Licensed Prisoner Release Programme (PBSL) in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.

Tapah Prison director Kamarudzaman Mamat said the release of the prisoners under the programme was like an early platform for the prisoners to be accepted back into the society once released.

"The Prison Department has given four inmates the opportunity to celebrate Aidiladha with their families through PBSL, and it will be continued in the coming festive seasons," he said, adding this was the first time the prison had implemented the programme.

He said this when met by reporters after handing over the four prisoners aged between 31 and 60 to their respective families here this morning.

Kamarudzaman said the release of the inmates were subject to certain conditions, and they were required to return to prison to continue their sentence after the break.
