Expedite aid to storm victims- DPM political-secretary

Last Update: 15/08/2019

ALOR SETAR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The relevant government agencies responsible for providing aid to thunderstorm victims in the state should expedite their efforts especially to people whose homes were damaged.

Political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Romli Ishak, said in most of these cases, only the roofs were affected, but if they were not immediately repaired, there would be more damage to the homes.

“So we hope that these agencies expedite the aid so that repairs can be quickly done,” he said.

Romli, who was representing the DPM, was speaking to reporters after visiting the damaged homes in the Kota Setar district here today.

During the visit, Romli attended a briefing given by Kedah Civil Defence Force (CDF) director Lt Col Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub.

Romli said so far, the CDF had identified 1,808 homes in 12 districts in the state which were damaged in the thunderstorm last Friday, with Kuala Muda seeing the most number of cases at almost 500.

He added that the government had also approved assistance for home repairs, to be paid out soon.

“There are two categories for repairs, with the first for minor cases, at a maximum of RM5,000 and the second for major damage which need more than RM5,000,” he said.
