KUCHING, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- More than 10 lower-ranked policemen in the Kuching district are targeted by the police in the Op Blue Devil operation to curb drug abuse in the force, Kuching Police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said today.
They are among the 80 officers and personnel being targeted at this time, he said.
“We (the police) are monitoring the movement of those on this target list and will act soon when they least expect it.
"This is to clear the team's reputation so that the image of the force is not tarnished because of some undisciplined members," he told reporters after a press conference on the Kuching Marathon.
On the marathon, Awang Din said 12 main routes will be closed from 11.30 pm on Sunday until 8 am the following day for the event.
"The roads to be closed are at the intersection of Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Gambier, Jalan Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Borneo, Jalan Abell, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Satok, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Jalan Masjid and the road near the St. Mary traffic lights.
"Jalan Tun Abang Hj Openg, Jalan Pearl, Jalan Barrack and Jalan Wawasan will be closed early to allow the erection of the start and finish archways for the marathon," he said.
