KOTA BHARU, Aug 22 -- The plight of the impoverished family living in a dilapidated rented house, has caught the attention of the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK).
Its deputy president Zulkifle Abdul Rahman said MAIK is considering on building the family a new home but this would depend on whether the couple has a suitable site for the construction.
He said MAIK officials were immediately sent to deliver aid to the family of five in Kampung Tengah in Kuala Krai, after news of their suffering was highlighted by the media.
"We learned that poverty had forced the couple to be creative in cooking discarded chicken skin as a special dish for the family, and this is really sad.
“MAIK president Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Rizam Tengku Aziz who is also Tengku Temenggong Kelantan, immediately instructed us to assist the family," he said when contacted today.
“For a start the council will give a RM2,000 donation and further assistance will follow,” he said.
MAIK would provide the appropriate assistance especially a proper shelter for the family, he added.
It was reported that Siti Hamidah Abdul Aziz, 32, had been collecting chicken skin from a school canteen for the past several months, to feed her husband Muhamad Zuhaidi Safin, 33, and their three children aged between three and eight.
It was even more distressing to see the family living in a shabby one-bedroom house, which they have been renting at RM100 a month.
