Penang govt seeking sponsorship for PFF scholarship

Last Update: 24/08/2019

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The Penang government is seeking sponsorship from the private sector for the Penang Future Foundation (PFF) scholarship programme.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today said that Penang aims to transform the state into a talent hub by appreciating, nurturing and utilising human talent to its fullest potential.

“At the same time, the state government remains hopeful that key industry players will step forward with their generosity and contribute towards making PFF a sustainable scholarship programme for gifted and deserving students,” he said in his speech at the PFF luncheon here.

Established in 2015, PFF is a scholarship programme initiated by InvestPenang to help outstanding Malaysians pursue their undergraduate studies in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Accounting (STEMA) field in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, who was present, said the scholarship programme funding pool started off with RM40 million and has been slowly depleting since.

Loo, who is one of the six members of PFF Selection Committee, said the scholarship programme has awarded RM23 million to 408 students, including the 61 PFF scholars who graduated this year.

“We aim to continuously attract outstanding students and nurture their talents here in Penang, so we do hope that the private sector could support our programme,” she said.

She said any enquiries on the PFF sponsorship can be made at 04-261 4224 or email at
