Proceeds from RTD's online number plate bidding system exceeds RM16 mln

Last Update: 26/08/2019

KOTA BHARU, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The proceeds from the online vehicle number plate bidding system (JPJeBid) implemented by the Road Transport Department (RTD) has reached more than RM16 million since it was introduced in April.

RTD vehicle licensing division director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said, the collection, involved 14 series of bidding through JPJeBid which was implemented in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Kedah, Penang, Sabah and Johor.

“For now, we are launching the JPJeBid for Kelantan and Pahang and we expect it to be implemented in all the states by the end of November,” he said at a press conference launching the JPJeBid at the Kelantan RTD here today.

At the event, RTD for the first time launched a joint bid involving two states, namely the bidding system for the DDP Series for Kelantan and CEE Series for Pahang through the JPJeBid system.

Mohd Rusdi said the system, offers transparency starting from registration transactions to payments made without anyone intervening.

He said, the bidding for the DDP and CEE Series would be open for five days from Aug 30 at 12 am until 11.59 pm on Sept 3 and bidding results would be announced on Sept 4.

“The bidding price is based on categories, namely for the category comprising the most valuable number is RM20,000, followed by RM3,000 for attractive numbers, RM800 for popular numbers and RM300 for normal numbers.

“Each of these categories will use a minimum bid increase of five per cent according to the price of the number. Payments can only be made via local credit or debit cards,” he said.

He said bidders could bid for as many numbers as they want as long as they pay a service fee of RM10 for each number bid, but each individual was allowed to bid for a maximum of three registration numbers, while companies were allowed a maximum of five registration numbers.

Successful bidders had only 12 months after receiving the offer letter issued by the State RTD or branch to register the vehicle numbers.
