Last Update: 27/08/2019

MELAKA, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) has approved 391 applications for the halal certification from companies involved in seven business sectors as of July this year, said its director Md Azhan Samat.

He said of the certificates issued, the highest number involved food manufacturing companies (283); food premises (45); hotels (37); consumer goods (13); slaughter houses (seven); original equipment manufacturer or OEM (four) and cosmetics (two).

“The certificate is issued after the companies involved have complied with the shariah aspect, in terms of cleanliness, purity and safety as outlined in the Malaysian halal guidelines,” he told Bernama here.

For any inquiry on the halal certification, the public or companies can contact JAIM at 06-333 3333 (extn 3612), he said, adding that a fee of R200 will be imposed for application from small industries, small and medium industries (RM800) and multi-national companies (RM1,400).

The halal certificate will be valid for two years and application to renew it has to be made at least three months before the expiry date.
