Police: No report received on child kidnapping in Kota Bharu

Last Update: 03/09/2019

KOTA BHARU, Sept 3 -- Police have advised the public not to share a video which went viral on social media yesterday showing the purported kidnapping of a little boy here by a man in a white Perodua Viva.

Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Daud today said his team had not received a single report on the alleged kidnapping, with checks already made at all police stations in the district.

Speaking to reporters at the district police headquarters, he said that previously a viral video of a white van used to kidnap children and teenagers had been found to be fake.

It is an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 to share fake news, he warned, adding that police would verify the authenticity of the video before deciding on further action.

In the 19-second video, the man is seen talking to the child who appears to be about six to seven years old, before dragging him into the car and driving away.
