Govt to find ways for KRT to generate own income

Last Update: 05/09/2019

MACHANG, Sept 5 -- The Government will find the best way to help 8,205 Neighbourhood Watch areas (KRT) to generate their own income nationwide.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik said the KRT had many opportunities to generate income based on suitability in their constituencies.

"These include livestock and fertility projects that can generate considerable income for members, especially those living in the villages," he told reporters during a visit to the ‘Patin’ (Silver Catfish) farming and Community Chat Project with the Pauh KRT community, here today.

Also present were South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR) chairman Datuk Sazmi Miah and Kelantan National Unity and Integration Department director Norwahidah Zinalibdin.

Md Farid said his ministry would work with relevant agencies including the Department of Agriculture and the Fisheries Department to carry out livestock and agricultural projects.

He said KRT’s success in fish farming was proven successful through its Silver Catfish project.

Meanwhile, Norwahidah said the Kampung Pauh Lima KRT silver catfish project, which started in March, has managed to yield three tonnes of silver catfish sold at RM6 a kg.
