Improving welfare of police among issues raised at IPCMC consultations

JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 11 -- The need to improve the welfare of the police force to ensure integrity is among the issues raised at the 2019 Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) Bill Consultation Session held at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today.

Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said clarifications on accepting complaints received attention at the consultation session which was attended by 250 police personnel from southern zone comprising Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

According to a statement issued here today, the consultation session was chaired by Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, the director-general of the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) under the Prime Minister’s Department, was an initiative to provide information and understanding to police personnel on IPCMC Bill which would be read in Parliament next month.

The consultation session among others is aimed at delivering the essence of functions and jurisdiction of IPCMC as provided under IPCMC Bill 2019 and to obtain feedback from police at the grassroots.

“If it was successfully implemented, IPCMC will only accept valid complaints of misconduct made effective from the date the new act is enforced.

“For complaints submitted to EAIC before the effective date will be resolved within six months, namely after the new act was gazetted and enforced,” said the commission.

This is the first consultation session held and it is expected to held in three other zones namely central, north and Sabah in stages until the end of this month.
