Last Update: 25/09/2019

LUMUT, Sept 25 -- Kedah have gained an advantage in their Malaysia Cup campaign when they defeated Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP) FC 2-1 in their first leg quarter-final match at Manjung Municipal Council Stadium here tonight.

The Red Hawks began aggressively despite playing in their opponents’ ground but failed to find the net.

Nonetheless, it was the home team who opened the score in the 37th minute via Yashir Armando Pinto Islame.

In the second half, Kedah striker, Fernando Rodriguez Ortega was on target in the 47th minute after receiving a pass from Jonatan Jesus Bauman for this season’s FA Cup winners to equalise.

As both teams battled  hard for the winning goal, a David William Rowley header from a free kick by Kedah captain, Baddrol Bakhtiar from the right went straight into the back of the net in 73rd minute for a Kedah victory.

Both teams will meet again in the second leg quarter-finals at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar on Sept 29.
