Perak Theatre Festival an attraction for visitors

IPOH, Oct 4 -- The Perak Theatre Festival is aimed at highlighting and popularlising theatre arts in the city as an attraction to visitors.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said the festival held for the first time by the Perak Culture and Arts Department (JKKN) is a significant event for practitioners seeking such platform.

“The programme should be promoted among the people to encourage practitioners and theatre art in the state,” he said when opening the Perak Theatre Festival Award at Perak JKKN complex here tonight.

The festival which began on Sept 23 featured 11 performances by 11 production groups to compete for the champion which will have the chance to compete at national level.

Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMP) emerged champion with its production entitled  'Boneka Hidup' and took RM3,000 in cash and certificate.

Kumpulan Komrad Anak Teater was placed second for its production  'Mesin dan Kopi' and won RM2,000 while Studio Permata with its production of  'Anak Syurga' took the third prize and RM1,000.
