Unexpected boon for house recipients under HPHP

Last Update: 06/10/2019

KUALA KRAI, Oct 6 -- An unexpected good fortune for a man, who applied for assistance to repair his dilapidated inherited house, when he became a recipient of an affordable home from the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (HPHP) under the South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR).

Mohd Azlan Ismail, 42, who was one of the 88 recipients of HPHP houses in the KESEDAR area recently, did not expect to stay in a more comfortable home with his family.

Initially, he said he only applied for assistance from KESEDAR to repair the dilapidated house in which he was staying with his wife and four children, aged from one to 13 year old.

‘’With my uncertain income as a labourer, I can’t afford to repair my house, what more to build a new one.

‘’If there is no programme like this, it is impossible for the poor groups like me to dream of staying in a more comfortable house,’’ he said when met at his house in Kampung Mengkebang here today.

Mohd Azlan said that he was very happy when he found out that he would be obtaining a HPHP house for the comfort of his wife and children.

‘’It is the most valuable aid and contribution from the government to our family. Otherwise, we would continue staying in the dilapidated house,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, another recipient Mohd Borhan Ibrahim, 40, from Kampung Chemulang, Kuala Krai said he also did not expect to get a HPHP house after submitting an application.

‘’Initially, I thought my application for the house had failed. Nevertheless, a few months later I was informed by an officer from KESEDAR that my application has been approved. You cannot imagine my feeling at that time.

‘’Prior to this, my wife, children and I were staying in a house which I rented at RM50 a month. I earn from RM450 to RM500 a month as a rubber tapper,’’ he said.
