Two evacuation centres closed down in Baling

ALOR SETAR, Oct 12 -- Two temporary flood relief centres (PPS) housing 152 flood victims from 48 families in Baling were closed at 2 pm today.
Baling Welfare officer Shamsul Izrin Isahak said the closure involving the PPS at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak and Baling Sports Complex was announced by Baling district officer Abdul Bari Abdullah after visiting the sports complex today.
“About 132 people from 45 families took shelter at the Baling Sports Complex while 20 from three families were placed at the Dewan Tun Abdul Razak,” he said in a statement here today.
He said the floods that started last Tuesday following heavy rain, began to recede this morning, allowing residents to return home.
However, Shamsul Izrin said rescue agencies such as the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) are in a state of full preparedness to face any possibilities of the weather conditions.
The is the second flood to hit Baling after the first one on Oct 5 involving 101 people from 43 families in Mukim Siong.
Among the areas affected by the floods are Kampung Tanjung Merbau, Kampung Lubuk Pedati, Kampung Bendang Sera, Kampung Charuk Sikin, Kampung Sungai Limau, Kampung Batu 60, Kampung Bukit Sebelah, Kampung Bawah Gunung, Kampung Pokok Sena, and Kampung Tanjung Merbau.
In the meantime, Shamsul Izrin also advised the public to be always alert to the situation and to follow instructions from the authorities from time to time in avoiding any untoward incidents during a flash flood.
