Two TSG academy riders to compete at New Caledonia tour

Last Update: 16/10/2019

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 16  -- The Terengganu Inc. TSG Cycling Team (TSG) will be sending two of its academy riders for the Tour de la Nouvelle-Caledonie 2019, which takes place from tomorrow until Oct 26.

The two riders, Wan Muhammad Hamizan Ifwat Wan Badrulfadli Sham and Wan Abdul Rahman Hamdan are set to gain maximum experience from the 10 stage-race spanning 824km.

TSG chief operating officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus said both riders, aged 20, were from the TSG Academy formed early this year to prepare new and emerging talents from the state for international competitions.

"We sent four riders to a training camp in Paris, France over the past three months. They have performed well, with Wan Abdul Rahman getting a podium finish twice in the Under-23 category there.

"So we decided to send them (the academy riders) to participate in the Tour of New Caledonia. We hope they come back with at least one podium finish," he told Bernama.

Nasiruddin noted that the training camp in Paris was for 'all-rounder' cyclists, while five riders would be sent for sprint training to Melbourne, Australia, early next year.

He said academy riders who performed well would be given the opportunity to join TSG’s elite team, which currently tops the Asian Tour rankings.
