Terengganu police prepared to face floods

SETIU, Oct 28  -- The Terengganu police are ready in terms of assets and personnel to face the floods expected to strike the state in the middle of next month.

State Police chief  Datuk Aidi Ismail said 710 personnel including from the Federal Reserve Unit, General Operations Force and Marine Police Region 3 were ready to be mobilised.

Only 10 per cent of the personnel would be allowed to be on leave for the moment while the rest would be on standby for any eventuality, he said.

"We have also prepared necessary logistics and 1,183 assets including boats, trucks, lorries, trailers and vans for the evacuation and rescue efforts,” he said after witnessing the handing over of duties of Setiu District Police chief here today.

Setiu District Police chief Deputy Superintendent Zulkifli Mat Deris has been promoted to be Kelantan  Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy chief while Assistant Superintendent Burhanuddin Mustapha has been appointed acting police chief.

Meanwhile, Aidi said the police would also conduct patrols to prevent looting during floods.
