GEORGE TOWN, Oct 29 — China’s Qingdao Airlines’ maiden flight Changsha-Quanzhou-Penang successfully arrived at the Penang International Airport (PIA) at 4.15 pm today with 42 passengers onboard an Airbus A320neo.
Penang Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Qingdao Airlines’ maiden voyage to Malaysia coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China this year.
He said the Changsha-Quanzhou-Penang route would be a regular flight with fixed flights every Tuesday and Saturday.
“This route will definitely deepen, promote and enhance the tourism, culture and economic exchanges between the government, enterprises, people, and individuals between China and Malaysia,” he said in a press conference here.
Also present at the press conference were Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd airline marketing division general manager (GM) Mohamed Salluddin Mat Sah, Malaysia Chinese Tourism Association chairman Datuk Albert Tan, Pos Aviation Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Woo Kam Weng, and Qingdao Airlines deputy GM Liang Zheng.
Meanwhile, Liang said Qingdao Airlines would likely open more direct flights between Penang and other cities in China, including Qingdao, Nanjing, Tianjin and Nanzhou.
“We do not have the exact schedule when these direct flights would be introduced, but we hope to launch them as soon as possible, with the help from the Penang government,” he added.
