Mother of bedridden son appeals for help

Last Update: 30/10/2019

PASIR MAS, Oct 29  -- A mother who has taken to sewing clothes to raise funds to care for her 19-year-old son, bedridden for the past four years after an accident, is appealing to the public for help.

Marsiah Mahmud, 49, said her second child, Mohamad Sabri Hafiz Sudin, was returning home from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Salor, Kota Bharu when his motorcycle was hit by a car from behind.

"As a result of the accident, half of his cranium was removed due to blood clots and he had to be treated at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian for three months before being discharged," she said when met by reporters at her rented house in Kampung Kangkong here today.

According to Marsiah, Mohamad Sabri who is now bedridden, with his arms and legs bent and stiff, was once a jovial and hardworking boy.

To ease the financial burden carried by her husband, Sudin Mohd Nor, 64, who works as a labourer, Marsiah now earns about RM300 a month by sewing clothes, but their earnings are insufficient to cover the monthly sum of RM1,500 spent on her son's needs like special milk, disposable diapers and payment for ambulance transportation to attend appointments at HUSM.

Well-wishers can send their contributions to Marsiah's Bank Islam account at: 03-102-02-005669-5.
