Gua Kelam recreation centre closed due to high water level

Last Update: 31/10/2019

PADANG BESAR, Oct 30 -- The Perlis Forestry Department has issued a warning about the dangers of high water level in the river in Gua Kelam which is still unsafe for all activities, so the recreation centre is still closed to avoid any untoward incidents.

Its director Ag Shaffie Ag Ahmadni when contacted by Bernama said the recreation centre would resume operations on a date that will be notified later.

“We closed it for a period of time and will reopen it when the situation improves because at the moment it’s always raining. The water flow is very rapid and dangerous,” said Ag Shaffie.

Gua Kelam waterfall and recreation area has been closed to visitors since yesterday following an overflow of water from the hills causing the river water level in the area to rise dangerously.

He said monitoring would continue and checks be carried out to look for any damages that might have occurred during the period of closure of the state's famous recreation centre.

The public could obtain the latest situation on the Gua Kelam by checking the Facebook page of the Perlis Forestry Department.
