Three die in two accidents in Penang

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 4 -- Two men were killed when the car they were travelling in veered into the opposite side of the road and collided with a lorry trailer in Jalan Kulim, Machang Bubok here today.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said Ho Seng Yew, 29, who was driving the car and his friend Cheong Sik Liang, 20, died at the scene in the incident at about 1 pm.

"The two victims in a Perodua Myvi were travelling from Kulim towards Bukit Mertajam, when the car entered the opposite lane and crashed into the trailer coming from Bukit Mertajam. The 36-year-old lorry driver was not hurt,” he said here today.

Meanwhile, in another accident, Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said a Bangladeshi man identified as Mizan, 39, died after the motorcycle he was riding was rammed by a lorry at Jalan Paya Keladi, Kepala Batas near here today.

"In the 12.15 pm accident, the victim gave signal to turn right into the Taman Bertam Perdana junction with a car following behind before the lorry suddenly rammed into the car and motorcycle,” he said.

According to him, the car was badly crushed in the back while the motorcyclist fell several metres away and died of severe head injuries.
