168 jerry cans of petrol seized in Semporna

SEMPORNA, Nov 8 -- Semporna Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 168, 25-litre jerry cans of petrol, believed to be smuggled to a neighbouring country, in two separate raids in a village here last Wednesday 

Sabah Region 4 PPM commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said a 47-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of storing 136 jerry cans of petrol without any permit  from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) in Kampung Kuala Bibang here.

"Following the arrest, the seizures worth RM184,736 were taken to Semporna PPM Base for further  investigation under the Supply Control Act 1961," he said in a statement here today.

On the same day Pajeri said, PPM Semporna also inspected a boat seen moving in a suspicious manner, at about 6.40pm and found another 32 jerry cans of petrol about to be smuggled into the Philippines.

He said police seized the boat along with two mobile engines and total seizure was estimated at RM 25,664.

PPM also seized six boats suspected to be used for petrol smuggling to the Philippine adding that the seizure of the boats and eight Yamaha engines was worth RM152,000.
