UMT issues gold coins to raise money for waqf fund

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 11 -- The Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has invited members of the public to purchase its special edition gold coins issued in conjunction with the university’s 17th convocation ceremony which will be held from Nov 16 to 18 for a good cause.
UMT’s Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre director Dr Riswadi Azmi said a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the coins will be channelled to the university’s waqf fund.
“A total of 2,000 pieces of gold coins with UMT logo will be issued. Of the total,1,500 units are weighing 0.5 grams to be sold at RM140 each while another 500 units weighing one gram each will be priced at RM230.
“The issuance of the gold coins aims at promoting and raising fund for the waqf fund, where RM3 and RM6 from every 0.5 gram and one gram coins sold will be donated (to the fund),” he said in a statement here today.
He hoped to raise about RM7,500 for the waqf fund during the first year of the issuance of the gold coins.
