MCPF branches to be established nationwide

Last Update: 11/11/2019

IPOH, Nov 11  -- The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) plans to set up branches at every Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) administrative districts nationwide in fighting crime within the local community.

Its senior vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said most of the 155 police administrative districts already have the branches and MCPF would collaborate with PDRM Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) to ensure branches are available in all police districts.

"At the MCPF annual general meeting, it was proposed that branches be set up at the national, state and district levels.

"We hope to set up 15 MCPF branches in all districts in Perak soon," he told a press conference at the Remaja Bersatu Mencegah Jenayah (Youth Unite In Crime Prevention) programme at Sekolah Menengah Yuk Choy (SUWA), which was also attended by Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain.

Lee said the programme organised by the Crime Prevention Committee was aimed at educating school students on issues related to crime to prevent crime among them.

Lee said PDRM statistics revealed that students’ arrest for violent and property crime nationwide dropped by 25.3 per cent last year to 1,286 arrests compared to 1,722 in 2017.

He said though students’ involvement in crime was not too serious when compared against the total number of students in the country which is over 5 million, everyone must play their role in preventing crime, especially in schools.

Since 1999 to date, MCPF has set up over 6,000 Crime Prevention Clubs in primary and secondary schools to instill high moral values and a sense of responsibility in crime prevention among schoolchildren.

"Crime prevention awareness is better than combating crime and I feel that MCPF in collaboration with the police and schools have contributed much in creating awareness on crime prevention in schools," he added.
