UPSI awards posthumous degrees to education figure, six undergraduates

IPOH, Nov 15 -- The 21st Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) convocation ceremony from Nov 19-21, will be a memorable occasion as for the first time an educational figure will receive an honourary Doctorate in Education while six university undergraduates will receive their degrees posthumously.
UPSI registrar Dr Zainab Othman in a statement said the educational figure was the late Datuk Mohamed Yunus Raiss Mohd Isah while the rest comprised degree and diploma undergraduates.
"They are Nur Filzah Zainal (Bachelor of Education (Curriculum Studies)), Muhammad Zikri Zainuddin (Bachelor of Design (Animation) with Honours), Mohammad Firdaus Abdul Hamid (Bachelor of Education (Music) with Honours) and Muhammad Amirul Ashraf Mohd Ariff (Bachelor of Education (Malay Literature) with Honours).
"The other two graduates are Saiful Akmal Jamaluddin (Diploma in Science (Mathematics)) and Samian Yakob (Diploma in Early Childhood Education)," she said.
However, she said the award ceremony for these special recipients would be presented to the closest next-of-kin during their respective faculty convocation.
Dr Zainab said the convocation ceremony will award degrees to 4,985 graduates comprised 108 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) , 993 Masters degrees, 2,610 Bachelor’s degrees, 201 Postgraduate Education Diplomas and 1,073 diplomas with 22 awards to 51 outstanding graduates.
She added, the first session of the convocation would be officiated by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, who is also the Chancellor of UPSI.
To celebrate the occasion for the graduates, she said UPSI would hold a Convocation Party at the Dataran Cemerlang, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus with various exciting programmes including 2019 UPSI Duo Talent and 2019 Rentak Bitara Unplugged.
In addition, there would be special appearances by local singers such as Sarah Suhairi, Naim Daniel and 2019 Bintang Klasik champion Shaz, a live chat programme with Fizo Omar and an ‘Islamic Affair Forum’ would feature Uztaz Azman and Ustazah Isfadiah.
