UTP Honours 1,711 Graduates At 19th Convocation Ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)  celebrated its 19th convocation ceremony where 1,711 graduates were honoured for their achievements Sunday.

A total of 115 graduate received their doctorate degree, 143 for Master’s degree and 1,453 graduates received their bachelor’s degrees.

227 were international graduates from 28 countries which included Brunei, Iraq, Yemen, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Egypt and Ukraine, it said in a statement Monday.

UTP has now produced 19,013 graduates since its first convocation in 2001.

At this year’s convocation, the Chancellor's Gold Award went to Information Technology graduate Aliya Najiha Amir meanwhile Civil Engineering graduate Looi Chee Kean and Chemical Engineering graduate Ho Syhui received the silver and bronze awards respectively.

The Best International Undergraduate Student was awarded to Abdallah Abdelmoniem Abdallah Mohammed, a Chemical Engineering graduate and a Chemical Engineering doctorate graduate, Yiin Chung Long received the Best Postgraduate Student award.

UTP Pro Chancellor Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh presented the scrolls to the graduates.

Institute of Technology Petronas Sdn Bhd Board of Directors, representatives from other universities and UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib together with more than 2,000 parents and guests were also present at the ceremony.
