Last Update: 05/12/2019

LUMUT, Dec 5  -- Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today officiated the 65th anniversary of Outward Bound Malaysia (OBM) at OBM training centre in Lumut here.

Among those present were Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli who is also Lumut Member of Parliament;  state's Education, Science, Technology and Environment committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari and OBM president  Datuk Seri Talaat Husin.

Talaat said the presence of Sultan Nazrin at the event was like a return to the fold as His Royal Highness was the 5th president of the OBM for 13 years from 1989.

"OBM had enjoyed prosperity under His Royal Highness leadership,” he said in his speech.

Talaat said since its establishment in 1954, OBM had achieved its glory and become one the most credible organisations in Malaysia in terms of the nurturing of personality and leadership among the youth.

According to Talaat, OBM which was previously known with many names such as Outward Bound Malaya, Outward Bound School and 'Sekolah Membina Semangat', was the second oldest Outward Bound institution operating in the world.

“OBM achievement was not only being recognised by its clients in the country but also by others from several countries in the region who had participated in its training programmes,” he said.

Talaat said to date, almost 215,000 teenagers had participated in its programmes.

There are currently 50 OBMs in 37 countries.
