NGO, private companies can channel flood aid through secretariat

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 20 -- Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private companies wishing to contribute to the victims of the North-east Monsoon Floods are suggested to channel their contributions via the state government disaster management secretariat.

Terengganu Director of the Malaysian Civil Defence Forces (APM), Lt Col Che Adam A Rahman said this was to avoid the dumping of aid goods in a particular flooded area if the aid continued to be sent to the location without coordination. 

“Based on last year’s experience when gathering coordination was carried out for the first time, we received a lot of contribution such as rice, mineral water as well as other necessities. And we decided where the goods should be sent based on the requirements of the flood victims in the particular area,” he told reporters after a briefing on Aid Coordination for Victims of the North-East Monsoon (MTL) Disaster at Wisma Darul Iman, here today.....
