Sandakan MP echoes call for east coast security reinforcement

SANDAKAN, June 19 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's call for the Lok Kawi army brigade to be based in the east coast and beefing up security resources in the area was today echoed by the Sandakan member of parliament. 

Vivian Wong Shir Yee in a statement said it was crucial to reinforce strategic security assets in eastern Sabah in light of yesterday's kidnapping incident involving 10 fishermen in Lahad Datu waters. 

She said she would also raise the maritime security issue in parliament next month.

Meanwhile in LAHAD DATU, fishing boat operators in Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) have been urged to prioritise the safety of their workers and to ensure that the communication system in their vessels were equipped with automatic identification system (AIS).....

Lahad Datu kidnap victim family members appeal for help


SEMPORNA, June 19 (Bernama) - Family members of fishermen who were kidnapped in Lahad Datu Tambunan waters yesterday appealed to the authorities and the Malaysian government to help free the fishermen.

KOTA KINABALU,  June 18  (Bernama) --  Ten Bajau Laut (Sea Gypsies) fishermen  have been kidnapped, believed to be by armed men linked to the Abu Sayyaf  terrorist group, in  Lahad Datu waters early today.

 
 

Sarawak all out to conduct rabies eradication programmes


KUCHING, June 18 (Bernama) –The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) will continue to conduct rabies eradication programmes to curb the outbreak of the disease in the state, which has recorded 19 rabies cases, including 18 fatal ones, so far.
