JOHOR GETS CABINET APPROVAL TO SET UP JETCO IN SINGAPORE

21/10/2020 08:37 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 21 -- The establishment of the Johor Economic, Tourism and Cultural Office (JETCO) in Singapore has obtained the “green light” from the Cabinet.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said he was informed by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today on Putrajaya’s nod to establish JETCO in the republic.

“The establishment of JETCO Singapore will break through the new economic narrative, culture and tourism post-COVID-19,” he said in a statement here.

Hasni said JETCO Singapore is expected to be active in bringing in investment as well as promoting the tourism and cultural sector between Johor and Singapore.

“Besides that, it will work with the ministries and agencies of the Federal Government and the Johor government in its efforts to look after the welfare of the people of Johor in Singapore.

“I hope this effort will enable Johor to be the most competitive and cultured state in the region post-pandemic,” he said.

The establishment of JETCO is one of seven initiatives (Ikhtiar Makmur Johor) announced by Hasni in June as part of plans to restore the state’s economy marred by the COVID-19 pandemic.
