MEF: GOVT SUPPORT CRUCIAL IN COVID-19 ERA
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 -- The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has called on the government to resolve issues related to employers which still require governmental support in weathering the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the federation -- which promotes and safeguards the rights and interests of private sector employers -- will continue to work closely with the government to resolve the issues, particularly those involving small and medium enterprises (SME).
“Besides the effective implementation of the (economic stimulus packages) PRIHATIN and PENJANA programmes by the various government ministries and agencies, MEF also supports the targeted intervention measures and public-private partnership initiatives that have been put in place to combat the pandemic and arrest the resulting economic downturn,” he said in a statement today.
Syed Hussain also lauded the government’s move to extended the wage subsidy programme, as well as the various incentives provided to employers to encourage the recruitment of new employees under Budget 2021.
“Extending the wage subsidy programme to up to March 2021, especially for the tourism and retail sectors, would help employers in these sectors to retain their employees.
“Meanwhile, the grants and incentives for upskilling and reskilling of workers is in line with the national policy to make Malaysia a destination for high-value-added products and services,” he added.
