KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 -- BloomThis, an e-commerce platform for on-demand flower delivery service, aims to double its revenue in 2022 through the expansion of its products and services.

BloomThis started to widen its product categories in 2020, with designer fresh flowers remaining its primary area.

The online florist has increased its offerings to include artisanal handcrafted gifts, gourmet cuisine such as cakes, ice creams, pastries and beverages, food hampers, as well as plants. It is able to do this thanks to collaborations with a number of well-known local and worldwide brands.

To handle a wider range of operations, BloomThis has moved to a new warehouse and office spread over 40,000 square feet in Petaling Jaya, said co-founder and chief executive officer Giden Lim.

“Back when we (he and his wife) first started out in 2015, we would even store the flowers in our own fridge.

“Over the years, we have moved our operations from our tiny apartment to our mother’s place, to a small office lot and, finally, here at this warehouse. We are not shy to say that we are very proud of this milestone,” he said during a media visit to the warehouse recently.

Speaking to Bernama after the visit, Lim said the five-floor warehouse signifies the expansion of BloomThis by adopting digital technology to serve a seamless gifting experience and lead to operational brilliance.

“As an operations-heavy business, BloomThis relies on technology for e-commerce to serve its end consumers and also incorporates technology into its operations,” he said.

Lim said BloomThis ensures each gift item is of luxurious design and uses premium flowers by leveraging technology that powers operational excellence and the gifting experience to provide clients with the finest experience and value.

Moving forward into 2022, he said, the company’s goal is to build on what it has accomplished during the pandemic by focusing more on complementary products that offer value to its gifting services.

“We are very grateful that despite the challenges we faced during the Movement Control Order, we were still able to double our growth, expand our team and do our part to contribute to the gig economy by offering more than a thousand delivery and freelancer jobs every month,” he said.

Meanwhile, co-founder and managing director Penny Choo, who is also Lim’s wife, said with its expansion, BloomThis aspires to give back to the community and society by providing more job opportunities.

“We are approaching non-governmental organisations and community bodies to seek their help in encouraging individuals to enhance their self-skills by participating in our training programmes through which they will secure positions at BloomThis.

“We see BloomThis as a place to inspire and upskill people, so we have set up a training room where people can learn about floral arrangement, and also undergo the research and development process where we make product prototypes,” she said.

With a wide array of luxurious gifts and sets being offered to customers, BloomThis warehouse is also expected to drive productivity and sales, making it easier to integrate and cater to a larger number of orders and deliveries of flowers, she added.
