MPOB TO HOLD REVIEW & OUTLOOK SEMINAR 2022 ON JAN 13

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4  -- The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is organising a Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook (R&O) Seminar 2022 on January 13 to disseminate information regarding the performance of the Malaysian oil palm industry in 2021, market prospects and price outlook for 2022.

In a statement today, MPOB said Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin will officiate the seminar.

Themed “The Oil Palm Industry: Navigating Challenges Embracing Opportunities in a Post-COVID Landscape”, the seminar will focus on the way forward for the palm oil industry, approaches taken by the government, as well as trade development and its impact on the commodity.

Nine papers on the performance of the palm oil industry for 2021, market prospects, and outlook for 2022 will be presented.

MPOB director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir will present a paper on the performance of the palm oil industry in 2021 and prospects for 2022.

“The seminar will provide opportunities for the participants to update on the latest performance of the palm oil industry, post COVID-19 strategies and market developments,” he said. 

Palm oil expert Dr. Julian McGill of LMC International Ltd will deliver a paper on the price of palm oil in 2021 and outlook for 2022, while another industry expert, Dr Sathia Varqa, will share his thoughts on the price volatility of edible oils and factors in the palm oil market sustainability.

Another industry expert U.R. Unnithan of Malaysian Biodiesel Association will deliver a paper on the prospect of the Malaysian biodiesel industry, while Mohamed Helmy Othman Basha of Sime Darby Plantation will present a paper on the issues of labour shortage amidst the global pandemic.   

Meanwhile, Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) secretary-general Datuk Ravi Muthayah will deliver a paper on the opportunities and challenges of the palm oil industry amidst the high palm oil prices.

Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) chief executive officer Wan Aishah Wan Hamid will share her thoughts on the changing dynamics of the Indian edible oil policy and its impact on palm oil demand.
