SSM NATIONAL CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON CORPORATE GOVERNANCE, SUSTAINABILITY

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The 11th Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) National Conference (SSMNC), to be held virtually on July 26 and 27, will carry the theme “Corporate Governance and Sustainability, Needed Now More Than Ever.”

 The annual conference, which is expected to attract over 2,000 delegates this year, aims to strengthen corporate governance and sustainability in achieving long-term value as well as sustainable growth of business.

SSM chief executive officer Datuk Nor Azimah Abdul Aziz said the COVID-19 pandemic has driven the concept of sustainability into the forefront globally and it is now a growing priority for companies to build effective business strategy around sustainability.

“Based on the rising trend and expectation, businesses need to pay special attention to their business decisions and its impact on environmental, social and corporate governance.

“They need to exercise good stewardship to ensure their business model is adaptable, resilient and innovative beyond short-term profit. The clarion call to strengthen corporate governance for sustainability is needed now more than ever and SSMNC’s theme is apt for this purpose,” she told Bernama. 

SSMNC has made its mark as a flagship regulatory education, earnest discourse, and networking platform for business and corporate professionals to stay relevant in the ever-changing business environment. 

The conference will feature nine plenary sessions with 37 distinguished speakers and 30 virtual exhibitors. Among the topics that will be explored during the conference are Coming Together for the Sustainability Agenda, Regulatory Landscape & Expectations on Sustainability Governance, and Embedding Sustainability in Small and Medium Enterprises.

Participants of the conference will also receive 16 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Points, which are points professionals receive for participating in specialised training.

SSMNC is expected to attract industry leaders, academicians, senior executives, company secretaries, and professionals.
