23/06/2022 04:53 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Lotus's Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus's Malaysia) has joined hands with the Halal Development Corporation (HDC) in the 'Make Halal Your First Choice' campaign to raise the marketability of locally made halal products, running throughout April to July.

The campaign, a programme under the 2022 Budget Initiative, features 389 lines of halal-certified food and non-food grocery items manufactured by homegrown small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in all 64 Lotus's Malaysia stores nationwide.

Lotus's Malaysia president Kenneth Chuah said that the campaign seeks to gain consumer interest and trust for quality and affordable local and halal-certified products.

"Quality and affordability have become key factors that influence purchases in this dynamic retail environment that heavily depends on consumer preference," he added.

Chuah was speaking to reporters after launching the campaign togetrher with Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid and HDC chief executive officer Hairol Ariffein Sahari at Lotus's Ampang here today.

Chuah said 90 per cent of over 3,000 Lotus's Own Brand products were sourced and manufactured locally and this showed the company's confidence in the capabilities and qualities of local SMEs.

He added that it is also important that local producers equip themselves with the right skills and capability in producing quality and competitively priced products.

"It is imperative that they do so in helping them rebuild and sustain their businesses post-COVID-19, while retailers like Lotus's Malaysia continues to be a platform for SMEs to advance their businesses," he said.

Meanwhile, Hairol Ariffein said the campaign also aims to attract SMEs in making halal a value proposition or added value to their business activities.

"We hope that this campaign fosters a 'halal first' mindset in Malaysia and makes halal products a top choice in their daily lives," he said.
