PETALING JAYA, June 24 (Bernama) -- The organisations are the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur (Rehda KL), Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) and Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) will jointly organise the 13th International Conference on World Class Sustainable Cities (WCSC) 2022 on Sept 12, 2022.

The event is endorsed and supported by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with the focus to explore and take proactive actions in making cities to be more resilient, sustainable and liveable.

Organising committee chairman Chan Jin-Wy said this year’s WCSC conference is timely as it hopes to provide a constructive and inclusive platform for city managers and planners, architects, city engineers, developers, federal and local governments as well as other stakeholders, including the public, to address how Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia should move forward into the future.

“Besides, Kuala Lumpur is also set to embark on an important planning policy direction through its new ‘Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2040’,” he told reporters in a briefing in conjunction with the event here today.

Therefore, he said the conference is set to create engagements with all parties involved on how to rise again from the pandemic and build a better city with affordable housing, facilities and infrastructure from regression aside from finding out the plans and preparations towards building a resilient and liveable city.

He said the conference would be inviting notable international and local experts with the hope of learning, emulating, adapting and adopting suitable approaches into the local situations.

Meanwhile, MIP president Datin Noraida Saludin said as part of the event, concurrent events namely the WCSC 2022 Masterclass workshop would also be held, where speakers would be facilitating a session with DBKL to find out strong recommendations for future planning in achieving sustainable development, low carbon and resilient city.

“We need to rethink on how to design houses, landscapes, buildings, infrastructures and so on to be resilient in order to withstand climate change at every scale not just in the city,” she said.

Among the speakers at the conference are Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp, founder and principal designer of Turenscape Kongjian Yu and DBKL’s executive director (planning) Datuk Sulaiman Mohamed.

Other events include WCSC 2022 Photography Competition and Young People’s Lab 2022 workshop for youths and the younger generation.
