KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- SEA Dragon, a venture investment platform, has targeted 20 Malaysian tech scale-up companies to present their pitch at the World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2022 Malaysia to develop into the next homegrown tech unicorns.
The National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) chairman Dr Sean Seah said the initiative to groom the next unicorn through the platform is in line with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation's aspirations to produce five unicorns by 2025.
"These companies are involved in sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, business automation, financial technology, space tech, food tech, data analytics, and Internet software services…these are among the key tech areas that are promising to be unicorns in the future.
"Since April this year, over a few dozens of start-ups and scale-ups companies have been selected to pitch at the SEA Dragon platform, securing spots to present their companies to the world via WCIT 2022," he said in his opening speech at the SEA Dragon media briefing and partners recognition event here, today.
Seah said SEA Dragon also offers mentoring sessions to the chosen 20 companies in August, which include coaching on the securitisation methodology whereby finalists will go through the process of how to impress and attract investors at the final pitching session during WCIT 2022.
WCIT 2022 will be held from Sept 13-15 in Penang with the participation of global tech leaders, venture capitalists and investors.
Currently, there are nine companies which had been shortlisted, namely Angkasa-X, Best2BidTechnology Sdn Bhd, Cortex Robotics Sdn Bhd, Emerging Payment Sdn Bhd, JOCOM, MDT Innovations Sdn Bhd, Reskills Edtech, Swift Bridge Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, and Xinn Holdings.
PIKOM has scheduled three more SEA Dragon pitching sessions in July and August. High-growth tech companies that are keen to participate in the SEA Dragon pitching series can obtain more information at https://www.pikom.org.my/seadragon.
